Casual Studentship

A student who is registered for an Engineering/Technology degree in a recognized Institute/University in India or abroad is eligible for being considered as a casual student at IITs . He/she should be officially sponsored by the Institute/University where he/she is studying. Such a studentship is granted to carry out research or to avail laboratory or other academic facilities or for attending a formal set of courses, for a maximum period of 6 months/one semester. Guidelines for accepting casual students at undergraduate programme are as under:

1. Request for such students should be officially recommended by the Head of the Institutions
2. Dept./Centre of IITs may accept such proposal providing one of the faculty accepts the student under him for guidance and Head of Dept./Centre approves the same.
3. The student will be registered as Casual Student and will be issued an Identity Card.
4. Casual Student shall be allowed to use Library facility for consultation purposes only
5. Casual Student is required to pay fee for one semester i.e. Rs. 27,735 (refundable Security Deposit Rs.2000.00)
6. At the end of their tenure, the concerned faculty may give certificate for their completion of such training/internship. No certificate of completion will be issued by central administration.
7. The Institute will not be liable for any damage on accounts of any injuries/loss sustained by such candidates during their course at the Institute. This should be conveyed to the students.
   This has approval of the Dean, Undergraduate Studies.
